"Don't touch that; you'll go blind!" We've all heard this before, but now there's a new twist.

According to two different Australian studies (University of Sydney and University of Melbourne), smokers have a fifteen percent higher chance of losing sight due to age-related muscular degeneration, or AMD. Smoking has also been related to two other eye diseases, nuclear cataract and thyroid eye disease. One out of every five smokers will develop loss of sight by the age of fifty. Smoking also lessens the effect of laser eye surgery, so there is no fixing the problem at it's root.

So, now we will see "Smoking causes cancer. But, you probably can't read this, because we've made you blind." on cigarette packs.

Oddly enough, the thought of going blind is much worse than having a stroke while in cardiac arrest during your kemo to most. TV ads have been running in Australia and New Zealand telling people that not only will their breathe smell like a monkey's ass, they'll bleed tar, and their hearts will explode, but you won't even be able to call a doctor to fix the problem because you didn't want to learn Braille. And, phone lines have been ringing constantly at the New Zealand "Quitline", a phone service created to help people quit smoking.

So, kids, smoke 'em if you've got 'em, and get your tax deduction due to disability!
