Topic: [Product] Tazo Chai: A cheap replacement for coffee? Posted: 2004-08-19 @ 22:06:42 TAZO CHAI: INDIA'S PICKER-UPPER.
For centuries, Chai has been served as an alternative to coffee in India. After traders came, Chai began brewing around the world. Commonly referred to as tasting "Spicy-Sweet" or "Sweetly Spiced". It's flavor is a unique one. So what is Chai really like? Read on to find out about my first experience with Tazo's Chai.
I was first told of Chai by a friend of mine who's of heavy Indian decent. During a late night conversation with her, I leared that she had a severe dislike for coffee. After a few hours of exchaning views, she told me about a drink of her ancestors. Better than coffee with it's strength and ability to wake, and not as addictive. This perked my curiosity, me being a big coffee advocate. I visited the local starbucks, and spotted some Chai tea while I was there. I got 5 packets, and here we are.
When first opening the pouch to retrieve the tea bag, A bittersweet aroma greeted me. It was quite strong (this is strong tea, BTW), but this alone woke me up. (from 5 hours of sleep, no less.) My mouth was watering already. I quickly prepared the tea. Chai is usually prepared with Milk or Cream, and some sugar or sweetener. My first sip (which burnt my lip) was preluded by a slow, deep breath to inhale the aroma. My taste buds were pleased with the Mixture of spices like Ginger and Cinnamon as well as the various black teas. After swallowing, it left a rich aftertaste in my mouth. I immidiatly felt calm, yet awake. Not an overpowering, shaky awake like with coffee. But a relaxing, full awareness.
A wonderful alternative to coffee, Tazo's Chai is a spicy-sweet (or Sweetly Spiced) tea that is sure to please even the most avid coffee lovers.
(And of course...product whoring...)
